Taxonomic Group: Annelids-Polychaetes

Laonome cf. calida is an estuarine tube-dwelling sabellid polychaete. It was described from Australia, where it is believed to be native. Introduced populations are known from low salinity waters in California and the Netherlands. It may be transported within ship fouling or ballast water aboard commercial vessels, but no other introduced locations are known. Few impacts have been reported from non-native populations, but it produces a surface layer of mucus around its tube which may trap phytoplankton species.
