Overview:

Neptunea arthritica is a large predatory snail commonly known as the Japanese Neptune Whelk. It is native to the Northwest Pacific from maritime Russia to Japan, Korea and China. Only two individuals, one in Washington and another in the Black Sea, have been reported from locations outside of its native range. It generally inhabits rocky shallow subtidal areas in cold-temperate waters and is an important fisheries species in Japanese waters. This whelk has not become established, and has no impacts, outside its native range.
