Taxonomic Group: Crustaceans-Crabs
Common name: BOCOURT SWIMMING CRAB

Overview:

Callinectes bocourti, also known as the Bocourt Swimming Crab, has a native range spanning from Jamaica and Belize to Santa Caterina, Brazil. It prefers brackish water, but can survive in marine to nearly freshwater areas. It has occurred sporadically on the US East and Gulf Coasts. On the Atlantic coast, it has been found from southern Florida to North Carolina, and on the Gulf Coast from western Florida to the Mississippi River Delta. Its occurrence in these areas may be through natural spread on currents or it may have been introduced through ballast water transport. There are no reported impacts of this species in US waters.
