Invasion Description

1st Record: Harbor Island, San Diego/CA/San Diego Bay (1983, Lambert and Lambert 1998). This may be the same species as the Ascidia sp. A. found in San Diego Bay in 1970-1979 (Fay and Vallee 1979, 5 specimens). Ascidia sp. A was common and widespread in sampling from 1995 to 2000 in southern California (Lambert and Lambert 1998; Lambert and Lambert 2003), but was not found in 2011 samples. 'It may no longer be present' (Gretchen Lambert 2012, personal communication)'. Further sampling will be needed to confirm whether Ascidia sp. A is extinct in West Coast waters.
