1st record: CA/San Diego Bay (as D. pizoni, described by Ritter and Forsyth 1919 from a single colony on a piling, Van Name 1945, 5 colonies found in an 1899 specimen collected by S. J. Holmes, identified by W. E. Ritter, Eldredge 1966) By 1945, Van Name gave its range as extending north to Pacific Grove, Monterey Bay (Van Name 1945).
