1st record: Isle de Groix, (Brittany)/France/Atlantic Ocean (1983, Castric-Fey et al. 1993); Isle of Ushant (1983, Castric-Fey et al. 1993), St. Malo (Brittany)/France/Atlantic Ocean (1983, Castric-Fey et al. 1993); widespread on the coast of Brittany//France/Atlantic Ocean Undaria pinnatifida was deliberately planted for attempted cultivation by IFREMER (French Institute for Exploration of the Seas), and persisted around cultivation sites after cultivation was abandoned (Castric-Fey et al. 1993; ; Flo'ch et al. 1996).
