Invasion
Invasion Description
1st Record: FL/Gulf of Mexico (Lineage B, introduced, Roy and Sponer 2002)
1st Record (Lineage Unknown): Florida Keys, Key West/FL/Gulf of Mexico (1884, USNM 15297, United States Museum of Natural History 2008); Roy and Sponer (2002) found two genetic lineages of O. savigny in Florida. One, lineage A, was only found in samples from the Western Atlantic, including 3 Florida samples. Lineage B included 3 Florida samples, other tropical Western Atlantic locations, but also Indian Ocean and Pacific locations. They did not give the locations of their Florida samples, so here we will assume that the Florida distribution of the two forms are similar and use museum and literature data. However, the date of invasion of lineage B is unknown.
