Invasion
Invasion Description
1st Record: Blue Hill/ME/Blue Hill Bay (1949, Schick and Lamb 1977)
Populations in the southern Gulf of Maine appear to have been transported by shipping from South of Cape Cod (Parker 1902), but a local population in Blue Hill Bay ME was apparently an independent introduction from Japan, based on size, life history, and genetics. The probable vector was a transplant of Japanese Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) in 1949 (Johnson and Shick 1977).
