Invasion
Invasion Description
Bousfield (1973) and Mills et al. (1997), suggest that G. daiberi was introduced by canals from Delaware Bay. Evidence for the canal vector is lacking. The Delaware and Hudson Canal was in operation only briefly, and was not a continous water connection, requiring boats to be hauled on inclined planes over the height of land (Baer 1991). This amphipod could easily be overlooked, given iis similarity to G. trigrinus and G. fasciatus.
