Invasion Description
Putative Type Locality: Charleston/SC/Charleston Harbor (1859, McCrady 1859, cited by Calder and Hester 1978; Calder 1988. The form described by McCrady was poorly illustrated and does not correspond to the form identifed by later authors. This name was subsequently used for a common hydroid in the region, associated with Sargassum, for more than 100 years, and the name has been conserved, with a neotype designated from Bermuda (Calder 1988; Anonymous 2002).
